Itโs a love-hate relationship with the microwave, do you know why? Every time I want to heat up the food, I have to confirm again and again before really putting it inโฆ"Ah! Can this be microwaved?โ You get the frustration now? ๐๐

1. What food cannot be microwaved?
โ Food with shell or membrane (e.g. eggs)
It is likely to explode if you cook an egg in the microwave. The home appliance operates at a high temperature and tiny pockets of water form throughout as an egg cooks inside its shell. As the yolk heats up, the water pockets will do the same and cause pressure within. Once the shell cracks...BOOM! Itโs a very โegg-citingโ explosion and we urge you not to try it. ๐
On the other hand, we also donโt recommend microwaving eggs without the shell as there is still a layer of membrane coated on it. The heat and steam may cause a break in the egg yolk and cause it to splatter! The best way is to beat up the egg and add water to make it into a steamed egg.

You should only boil water in the microwave in approved containers. Do not use plastic or glass unless itโs rated safe for microwave use. Do note that metal should never be put in the microwave! Microwaved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the boiling point. They get super heated and not bubble at all and may result in sudden โblew upโ. This is caused by a phenomenon known as super heating.๐ฅ

It is never a good idea to put fruits in the microwave. I mean, fruits arenโt usually eaten warm?๐ค There are rumors on using a microwave to make dried fruit slices. However, not all fruits can be made into dried slices with a microwave! Fruits with rich water content such as Grapes may explode and raisins send off so much plasma that they can ruin your microwave. However, there is an exception, which is the Apple! 2.ย What types of containers are NOT microwave-safe?ย
โ Metallic Container
The inside walls of the microwave are made of metal. It traps the โmicrowavesโ inside the appliance, in order to heat up the food. If you place more metal objects into the microwave, the โmicrowavesโ hit the metal, free electrons on the metallic surface end up moving from side to side very rapidly. This, in turn, prevents the electric wave from entering the metal, and the waves end up being reflected instead. As they are reflected instead of being absorbed, it may result in arcing inside the microwave and cause electrical sparks. This is very dangerous to your safety as well as destroying the home appliance itself.ย
โก Sealed Container
Placing a sealed container in the microwave is like placing a bomb on it. Microwave makes the water molecules bounce against each other, creating heat and steam...the steam must then be released. An unopened jar of pasta sauce, for example, would get hot, generate steam, and would eventually blow up, spraying broken glasses and pasta sauce throughout the oven cavity, and likely blow the door open.๐จ
โข Plastic Bags/Containers
When heated, the BPA and Phthalates in plastics can leach into your food. The plastic material may also deform during the heating process. 3. How do I clean a microwave?
